Cinecity is a fantastic film festival for its blending of art documentaries, foreign language cinema, local films, short films, Q&A sessions and more at an affordable price. You can get three tickets for the price of four and there are also plenty of £5 tickets available for under 25s. I can’t hope to cover all of the highlights here but will select a few that look particularly enticing.

Cassette: A Documentary Mixtape explores the culture of music sharing through cassettes with contributions from Thurston Moore and Henry Rollins. (Tues 15 Nov, Duke’s At Komedia, 9pm). After The Storm is the latest outing from Hirokazu Koreeda, a superb director of contemplative, personal and insightful films (reminiscent of Tokyo Story) that I can’t wait to see. Kick off your Friday night with some solemn tears.

(Fri 18 Nov, Duke of York’s, 9pm).

It didn’t make much of a splash but Kenneth Lonergan’s film Margaret had some memorably strange, fussy dialogue and a stunning, agitated lead performance from Anna Paquin. Only his third film in 16 years, Manchester By The Sea could be one for any fans of character-driven drama such as Six Feet Under.

(Sat 19 Nov, Duke of York’s, 6pm).

Lynn Ruth Miller is The World’s Oldest Comedienne, as you can see in a riotous documentary by our very own Bill Smith. Tickets are only £5 and include a Q&A with Miller herself, and Bill too. (Tues 22 Nov, Latest Music Bar, 7pm). Kiki looks like a different sort of vibrant documentary, shedding light on the artistic/activist ballroom dance movement for young queer people in New York City.

(Thurs 24 Nov, Duke of York’s, 9pm).

The Red Turtle, meanwhile, is an international collaboration between Studio Ghibli and Oscar-winning Dutch animator Michael Dudok De Wit. Studio Ghibli’s films are consistently, mesmerisingly beautiful so I have high hopes for this one.

(Sun 27 Nov, Duke’s At Komedia, 2pm).
