Scott Gibson: Life After Death
A masterful storyteller, with parallels to Billy Connolly that reach beyond their shared Glaswegian roots, it was easy to see why Gibson’s comedy origin story cum medical ordeal has won esteemed plaudits. He held the tension beautifully, liberally bringing to the fore every bit of humour and unflinching from an incredible tale, through its darkness, deft everyday denial, and the delightful minutiae of the workings of an A&E department and on to the surgical ward. This is an remarkable testimony to the strength of the NHS, compelling and enlightening in its candour too due to the skill of the miner who dug such a rich seam of comic and honest storytelling through his own experience. Congratulations to Gibson – the show was over too soon.
