Doing What It Says On The Tin: Tom Dussek
Sobering truths and the ‘F’ word abound from the lips of Tom Dussek, who gives an open, honest and searing account of social inequality through the eyes of a working-class carpenter. He addresses the pertinent issue of house ownership, how someone like him could never own one. He harks back to the days when physical strength was something to be valued. There is a pathos in his devaluation – even his kids don’t need him anymore. This thought-provoking show has glimpses of brilliance. For one, the role reversal of a builder passing judgement on those whose houses he builds, rather than vice-versa. The clever ending to this moving monologue is worth the wait.
