This Is The Kit
A place like Brighton is the perfect platform for a band like This Is The Kit, whose whole boho aesthetic and folk-country-shoegaze style seems almost purpose built for the city. Which makes it all the more tragic this gig never reached the heights it promised. While Kate Staples’ solid songwriting and vocal abilities were clearly on show, superbly backed by the often mesmeric guitar skills of Neil Smith and effortlessly captivating bass noodlings of Rozi Plain, the show rarely seemed to get out of second gear. An enjoyable and thoroughly nice evening, but it was sadly lacking in memorable moments.
