Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Two years on from their previous magisterial show at the Dome, the ever-evolving Montreal post-rock collective Godspeed You! Black Emperor delivered an equally floor-shaking set. With a backdrop depicting degraded pastoral scenes giving way to the latest album’s ‘Luciferian Towers’ before nature takes it all back, the thunderous nature of the classical-influenced slow-build-up, to booming metal crescendo, wrung every last drop of metaphor from this scene. A perfect segueway to the doom-laden ‘Mladic’’s searing guitar cut through the endless turbulent drone, whilst the brilliant ‘Anthem For No State’ was exactly that: a paean to the restorative power of chaos.
