Brighton Lights: What to do in the city – w/c 23rd January

Music, Entertainment & Comedy With Victoria Nangle

Lord-Huron
1 Lord Huron, the conjured project of Ben Schneider from the depths of Lake Huron in Michigan, comes to Brighton with his hazy, desert Americana rock. The show was originally scheduled to play at Concorde 2 but has moved to Komedia, although previously bought tickets remain valid. Phew!
Komedia, Wednesday 24 January, 7.30pm, £17.50 BFC_group_shot_2015
2 Join Brighton Festival Chorus’s Open Rehearsal as a singer and try joining in for size. They are rehearsing Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast, with scores available to borrow on the evening, and you can join afterwards for a glass of wine and maybe even a short audition if you wish.
Falmer Campus, Tuesday 23 January, 7pm, free dave-randall
3 Dave Randall is a musician and activist. He has toured the world playing guitar with Faithless, Sinead O’Connor, Emiliana Torrini and others. Dave Randall uses his insider’s knowledge of the music industry to shed light on the secrets of celebrity, commodification and culture at The Catalyst Club.
Latest Music Bar, Thursday 25 January, 8pm, £7/6 Lucky-Voice
4 Lucky Voice wants to hear it from the boys only, as the karaoke hotspot encourages singles to mingle with its first ever Gay Speed Duetting night. Speed Duetting involves half the group being seated in one of the private karaoke booths. Would-be suitors then arrive and serenade, before their starry-eyed audience returns the favour. At the end of the night, everyone fills in a form naming the person they fancy, and if there’s a match Luck Voice put them in touch!
Lucky Voice, Wednesday 24 January, from 7pm, £10 includes a drink Paul-McCaffrey
5 Blow out those January Blues with Comic Boom – allowing you to concentrate on rising comedy stars, rather than the one you can’t quite detangle from your beaten up Crimbo tree. Hosted by Paul McCafrey (BBC3, Practical Jokers), and headlined by Garrett Millerick, fast becoming a live comedy heavyweight. Support comes from observational, the cutting, the sharp, and the silly and in the voices of Dave Green, Linda Larkin, Mike Cox, Clifford Norton and Liz Collis.
Komedia, Thursday 25 January, 8pm, £10/8/5 Patrick
6 Patrick Monahan brings warmth and delight wherever he goes. Notorious for going off script with his shows and focussing on audience interactions that run away with into massive hugs, Monahan is also very good when he does stick to his planned show contents. He’s in Worthing with Rewind Selection 90s, recounting his time as a teenager in the 90s, half Irish and half Iranian and finding himself on the periphery of ‘Cool Britannia’.
Connaught Studio, Worthing, Saturday 27 January, 8pm, £13.50/11.50
