German-Jewish Centre marks Holocaust Memorial Day with the power of words

A variety of events have taken place in Brighton and Hove in the past week to mark Holocaust Memorial Day which, this year, had the theme of ‘The Power of Words’.

Two schools, Brighton and Hove High School for Girls and Brighton College hosted events which were organised in consultation with members of the Holocaust Education Project from the local Jewish community.

Brighton college students dedicated a week’s events to mark the liberation of Auschwitz on January 27, 1945.

The pupils, joined by mayor Mo Marsh, listened to the harrowing story of Holocaust survivor Dorit Oliver-Wolff, who survived against all odds and went on to become a pop star in Europe in the 1950s.

The mayor also joined pupils at Brighton and Hove High School for Girls for an event that involved Dance, Poetry, Coral and spoken word presentations from the students and staff.

On Wednesday the 7th February, the Centre for German-Jewish Studies at the university of Sussex will be holding their annual memorial event at the Attenborough Centre.

Latest TV spoke to Diana Franklin, the centre’s manager, about the events planned for the day. For more info please visit: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/holoca…
