Hayseed Dixie

Some bands take themselves far too seriously. This could not be said of Hayseed Dixie, who returned to Brighton with their ongoing mission to give rock and pop classics the bluegrass treatment. Singer and guitarist John Wheeler looked the part in cut-off dungarees and, as with his band mates, was a master of his instrument. Gems such as ‘Walk This Way’ and ‘Ace Of Spades’ worked perfectly as hillbilly hoedowns but there were occasional mismatches such as ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ that didn’t fit with the genre. They ended as only they could with a bizarre medley of AC/DC and The Bangles.
