Pick Of The Fringe: Launch Night Special
Pick Of The Fringe is running every weekend evening throughout the Brighton Fringe hosted by enjoyable local comic Michael Fabbri, and if this was anything to go by it’ll be one of the gems of the month. A mixed bill of comedy, cabaret and that intangible magic that promises a spark of mischief that anything can happen, there wasn’t a duff note from any of the seven acts on the bill tonight.
The Jurassic Parks surprised us with their fast-moving physical dinosaur rendition, Luke Rollason charmed and delighted (winning some vocal fangirls along the way) with his sweet and funny clowning, Joe Black was a villainess supreme delivering some of the litigious Mouse’s finest wicked showtunes with a promising smile-grimace.
The second half opened – and closed – with a spellbinding extract from I Am Somebody, a laser-filled music spectacle that had everyone captivated. Then a break for Brighton Fringe’s firework spectacle to a Warren-packed crowd of revellers, before back to more fun. Lucy Farrett (aka Ladyface) made sure the pace never dropped with her fast-moving character comedy, flitting between Audrey Hepburn’s How To, a delightfully obnoxious and oblivious pony girl, and a gut-punchingly enjoyable Plague Girl that ambushed with her laughs.
Closing the night was the 7 foot glamazon Ginzella, firing provocatively flirtly barbs, looking stunning sporting a luscious beard and bouncy curls, and with a vocal range that defied expectation in the best way.
A selection pack in which every flavour brought their own sensation.
