Jerwood Young Artists, Glyndebourne
This concert is always a hot ticket. These five budding opera stars will soon find themselves on the great international stages. Generously supported by Matthew Fletcher on piano, Nardus Williams (soprano), Ida Ränzlöv (mezzo-soprano), Jake Muffett (baritone), Michael Mofidian (bass-baritone) and William Thomas (bass) sang their favourite opera numbers. The demanding acoustic was quite a challenge, tempting some to over-sing but they all have wonderful voices. The duet from Mozart’s ‘Don Giovanni’ and the terzetto from ‘Cosi fan tutti’ sounded under-rehearsed but the show-piece arias were bravura. My favourite moment was a sublime soprano top C in Puccini’s ‘La Rondine’.
