Old Stock: a refugee love story. TOM 23rd October 2018
“We made it, you made it, others were not so lucky, others ARE not so lucky” reminds our charismatic Bard for the evening, The Wanderer.
We were taken on a journey, a flight from harm both historic and contemporary,to Montreal from Romania, with love. But what love is there after such grief, heartache and loss?
Through clever set design, lighting, sound engineering and bombastic live Klezmer music, we were transported into another time and place, only to find that the same dynamics and de-valuing of human life are at play in contemporary immigration policy and procedure too.
The piece was hard when it needed to be, tender when it could be. As playful and humorous at times as it was dark and poignant.
