The Will Gregory Moog Ensemble

Goldfrapp’s Gregory assembled a group of like-minded analogue synth lovers to perform a concert in praise of the mighty Moog. Beginning with a selection of Baroque pieces performed using wind synthesizers that recalled early 1970s school TV programme themes and interludes, there followed a tribute to Wendy Carlos’s million-selling ‘Switched-On Bach’ album and a selection of retro-futurist pieces that embraced Sci-Fi soundtracks, Bach-in-space and pre-disco throbbing dance music driven by white noise drumbeats and heightened with pitch changes. A superbly-executed version of John Carpenter’s dystopian ‘Escape From New York’ completed an evening for geeks that was enjoyed by all.
