PIERFEST: BARB JUNGR SINGS BOB DYLAN

There are singers and then there are Singers, Singers with a capital S. Barb Jungr is most definitely the latter, a fabulous voice but more than that, Barb is an interpreter of song, one that over the last three decades has carved a place in the world of music that sees her as the finest exponent of the genre, a chanteuse, a cabaret star on an international platform.

You may first have spotted Barb working with Julian Clary on his delightful musical numbers in Sticky Moments. From there she moved on to create some excellent musical shows, Hell Bent & Heaven Bound and Girl Talk amongst them and working with some real talents – Marie Wilson, Christine Collister, Claire Martin… and many many more.

But it was with her extraordinary work interpreting the songs of Bob Dylan that she truly found her forte and her now international acclaim. The album Every Grain Of Sand gave rise to subsequent explorations of not only Dylan’s work but the work of Leonard Cohen, Lennon & McCartney, Sting and Jacques Brel. And with each she reaches new highs and new audiences. On the occasion of Dylan’s recent 80th birthday she was named in the top ten artists who have covered his work, no mean feat as everyone seems to have had a bash at Bob!

Barb Jungr is a tireless performer working extensively on both sides of the Atlantic, taking the New York cabaret scene by storm and forming collaborations with some of the scenes finest musicians, and her performances at Crazy Coqs cabaret in the West End’s stylish Brasserie Zédel are always totally sold out. In addition Barb is a fine songwriter in her own right and has created works of musical theatre and children’s theatre too.

As part of PierFest on Brighton’s Palace Pier Barb is bringing her unique act to a city that has had for many years a huge number of fans of her work and who will no doubt be clambering for tickets to see their favourite, so booking for this will no doubt be essential.
