Action on Homes: Festival of Ideas
Action on Homes: Festival of Ideas – 19th October 2.30pm – 8.30pm at the Brighthelm Centre.
Against a background of chronic housing need, now made more acute by recent developments, the Brighton and Hove Housing Coalition is co-ordinating an Action on Homes – Festival of Ideas Event to spotlight the lived experiences of a broad spectrum of people.
Live speakers will include representatives from Shelter; Campaign against Empty Homes; BHT Sussex; Museum of Homelessness; Arch Healthcare; Lawstop; Friends, Families and Travellers; Inside Housing Magazine; Brighton & Hove City Council and the Brighton and Hove Housing Coalition.
The event will also involve recorded presentations and panel discussions covering the report on Homelessness and Rough Sleeping by Lord Bob Kerslake of the Kerslake Commission; Bob Blackman MP, sponsor of the Homeless Reduction Act; and Cllr Matthew Brown from the City of Preston.
In addition, a Market Place of housing and advice organisations, including Shelter, B&H Community Land Trust, Unite Community, Sussex Homeless Support and Brighton & Hove Housing Coalition will be in attendance.
A short film presenting local people’s experience of housing in the city will be shown.
“We hope this will be more than a conference – a real solution-finding exercise. One where we all leave understanding the problem, what has helped, what has not and above all, how we can work together to deliver a lasting solution. Lives literally depend on it” Jim Deans COO of Sussex Homeless Support.
The meeting will be as interactive as possible with opportunities for audience members to contribute their opinions on issues raised. The results of an online survey of Brighton and Hove residents will also be discussed.
