The programmes this year ranged on championing the next generation of filmmakers, as  well as celebrating pioneering animation methods from the 20th century like puppet-based  stop animation. They also engaged audiences on significant issues like the human condition  in ‘To Be Human’ and the environment in ‘The (un)Natural World’. They were also all subtitled with a BSL interpreter at all events – making the festival fully accessible for those  who are deaf & hard of hearing.

The BIAF is also the only animation festival to showcase a Queer programme – this year it  was ‘Queer As F++K’ – specially curated out of the competition, this programme of Queer  Animation explored an array of contemporary queer culture from terfs and gender identity  to sex positivity.
