Jazz Turner’s solo sail around British Isles
Jazz Turner is aiming to be the first disabled woman to sail solo around the British Isles in her boat named Fear, as part of Project Fear which is about facing fears and following your dreams. Jazz Turner is 26 years old and has Ehlers Danlos syndrome. Her disabilities add additional challenges to an already challenging pursuit. Jazz is a passionate sailor who also trains other disabled sailors as part of the Sailability community. She is hoping to raise £30K for Sailability which helps disabled people with skills and equipment for sailing.
Sailing solo entails no assistance, and no use of the electric engine, only use of sails is permitted. The boat is a 27 foot racer/cruiser which has been modified to meet the challenges of the feat ahead.
The record attempt is likely to take 6-8 weeks. Jazz set off from Brighton Marina on Monday 2nd June at midday to a cheering crowd. Her friends and foster parents, Chris Turner and Dr Carolyn Turner were there to give support. Her foster dad is a sailing instructor and foster mum a GP and they are rooting for Jazz in all ways.
Jazz’s spirit and drive is truly inspiring and we wish her and her family all the best in the weeks and months ahead.
