Mad, Bad World of Jeff Keen

The Mad, Bad World of Jeff Keen was an illustrated talk about the work of the Brighton-based artist and filmmaker with clips from his films. It was a good introduction to his work and really amazing to think that he managed to make such complicated films before the days of digital video editing. The talk was just read out loud from paper and was a little dry and academic, and there was quite a bit of scrabbling around trying to find the right video clips, but a nice touch was Jeff’s projectionist showing some of the earlier films on an old fashion reel-to-reel projector. Jeff’s daughter, Stella, was in the audience and took some questions at the end and it might have been better if she had been involved throughout, giving it more of a personal touch.
