Julia Holter
Influenced by artists like Kate Bush and Björk, Holter’s set leant heavily towards material from latest release ‘Loud City Song’. Her second album is stronger and richer than her debut however so this was all for the better, and the live interpretations were intriguing, jazzier, more disjointed pieces compared with the poppier sound of the record. Double bass, saxophone, violin and drums backed her up on keyboard, with delicate fills and sharp, striking playing perfectly combining with her beautiful voice. The set felt a little stop-start at points however, and the audience’s being seated at tables arguably created a static distance from the performers, particularly during the more upbeat numbers.
