Celeb City with Jo Brooks: Sugababes return

Sugababes return

The Sugababes were in Brighton recently to promote their banging new single ‘Freedom’ as they put the finishing touches to their 8th studio album. The ’Babes popped in to Brighton’s own radio station – Juice FM – to talk music, marriage and mutts with Guy and Andrea. After enjoying a well deserved break the girls are feeling ready to take on the charts once again. Their free time was spent relaxing in their different ways; whilst Amelle enjoyed spending some quality time with her little pooch, Heidi indulged her domestic side by getting involved in some home cooking and Jade has become a budding painter – how sickeningly talented they all are! Of course Juice couldn’t resist asking the girls about their love lives and Heidi admitted that she was in the midst of preparing a winter wedding to her fiancée, none other than the cheeky cockney TV presenter Dave Berry. Guy made a pitch to be the official wedding DJ and as he promised to deliver ‘ratpack, swing type stuff’. Heidi agreed to consider negotiations; good luck Guy! The Sugababes anticipate that their new album will be released later this year, which will be followed by a UK tour, coming to Brighton in early 2012. Watch this space.

Crawley Town FC on Fifa 12

Last week the JBPR girls had the pleasure to fawn over footballers on – and off – screen. To celebrate Crawley Town FC’s CGI debut, as they were inaugurated in Fifa 12 as their Crawley Town avatars, we got the boys to take on some local school children at the game. Kyle McFadzean really got stuck in, refusing to lose even to eight year olds! Team mate Matt Tubbs didn’t seem surprised, apparently Kyle is dead competitive. This is good news for Crawley Town fans, who have been watching the team grow and grow in recent seasons. Tubbs won man of the match for us though, playing with all of the kids and signing loads of autographs- just generally being a great sport. Thanks also to Charlie Wassmer who popped along a bit later and got involved as well. A great game for all!

Heather’s food range

Brighton’s most famous vegan – Heather Mills – joined us last week to take part in the Moshi Moshi Vegan challenge. Using products from her Redwood Food vegan range, Brighton’s top chefs, such as Arnaud from Aloka – which specialises in raw and vegan food, created fully vegan sushi to highlight the dangers of over-fishing.

Spotted!

Pioneering new film screened
Brighton based film director Phil Grabsky premiered his latest film The Boy Mir a couple of weeks ago at London’s prestigious Royal Geographical Society. The film, which has been hailed as ‘pioneering stuff’ by Total Film’s Paul Bradshaw and ‘a startling documentary’ by The Guardian, tracks the coming of age of the cheeky young Mir in modern Afghanistan. The film has won several awards and we’re proud to see such an innovative Brightonian doing so well in a difficult arena. If you haven’t seen The Boy Mir yet visit www.theboymir.com/screenings.html, to check out details of future screenings.
