Laura Gibson
Laura Gibson brought her brand of Pacific-Northwest, whimsical indie-folk to the Komedia and never once settled into any kind of defineable groove. Her performance blistered and soothed in equal measure, veering from bossanova beats to richly textured folk ensembles. And it worked: there was a luxuriousness about the sound of her four-piece that wove vocal harmonies and delicate rhythms into an arresting tapestry of sound. What helps her to stand out is, of course, her unique voice and it is that which has made people stand up and take notice of this undeniably raw and gifted talent.
