Brighton let two keepers go along with Navarro

Brighton and Hove Albion have released midfielder Alan Navarro along with two goalkeepers – David Gonzalez and Michael Poke.

The 30-year-old Liverpudlian said on Twitter a few days ago that he was not being offered a new deal by the club.

He tweeted: “I am not being offered a contract at this time, thx 4 all ur tweets thru the season.”

And shortly afterwards he tweeted: “Thx 4 all ur quality tweets, appreciate it so much, good luck 4 next season, get right behind the boys.”

Poyet said: “No manager likes giving players this sort of news, but especially when it is to three excellent professionals – but I believe it is the right decision for everyone.

“Alan has had an exceptional season and proved himself at this level, but as a club we are very well covered in that position.

“With that in mind it was difficult to offer him another contract, but I’m sure he will have no shortage of offers.”

Peter Brezovan and Casper Ankergren both have a year left on their contracts, leaving Gonzalez and Poke in a similar position.

“If circumstances were different we may have offered David or Michael something.

“But they will find it difficult to play next season so it is right for both of them and the club that they establish themselves somewhere they have a chance of regular football.”

Navarro has played 85 times for the clubc in all competitions since signing from MK Dons in 2009. He scored in the 2-1 win over Leeds in February.

Poke joined the club two years ago and played just once at senior level for the Seagulls. He recently spent a loan spell with Bristol Rovers.

Gonzalez joined Albion from Manchester City on a short-term contract during the January transfer window and has since made two senior appearances.
