The Cheeky Chappy

‘The Cheeky Chappy’ aka Max Miller, arguably the most successful British comic of the early twentieth century and Brighton favourite, came back to life in this tight biographical play. Jamie Kenna was magic in the title role, bringing Maxi’s original material to life, and turning in a fine performance of an homage to the all to human star, rather than impersonation. Laura Martin-Simpson achieved the difficult task of making Miller’s distant wife sympathetic, whilst also flawed and beautifully regal. And Sarah Moyle was charming as the ‘other woman’, sparky and capturing a cheeky playfulness of her own.

A wonderful show and a top class performance by Jamie Kenna, who really brought Max Miller to life on stage. Great supporting cast as well – one of the best shows I’ve ever seen at the Brighton Fringe.

Thank you and well done to all concerned.
