Brighton Film School student wins award

Charlie Bentley, 21 and a student at Brighton Film School, has made the best possible start to his career after being credited as Production Manager in an award-winning 10-minute short film.

Closer won the ‘Film of the Month’ award in a competition sponsored by MovieScope Magazine. Thousands of fans voted online with the short film, a production of BoxClever Film, emerging as the favourite.

The script, set in a quiet seaside town shortly after a young boy has lost his father, was penned by Bentley himself and explores the bonds by shared loss. The film was written, cast and set in a week and filmed in only three days.

Charlie says of the project:“We were all set to shoot an entirely different story, when I became inspired to write something after I lost a ring that was given to me by my grandfather. I felt really bad about this loss and it became the inspiration and a symbol for the resulting story about a boy who has lost his father and his subsequent relationship with his grandfather.

“We were so happy with how well the film was received and we were really pleased with the finished project and couldn’t have done it without the support of our friends and family and the skills I learnt whilst studying at Brighton Film School.”

Brighton Film School is a specialist academy in Central Brighton offering 2- year degree level programmes in Filmmaking HNC/HND, as well as evening classes, courses for young filmmakers and Summer School.
