Mt.Wolf
Heading out on a drab, wet Monday evening isn’t exactly an enticing prospect for a gig goer, but to be greeted by equally drab, wet music takes the sogging biscuit.
South London 4-piece Mt.Wolf condense folk, dream-pop, and even a bit of post-rock ambience, which works well on record, but at their latest Brighton show they never truly staked their ground. Despite vocalist Kate Sproule’s searing vocal range, the stuck-at-mid-tempo songs failed to leave an indelible impression. There are a few moments of outstanding beauty – ‘Hypolight’ sent a collective shiver down the audience’s spine – but the set as a whole was overtly sincere and, at points, dull. They have all the talent and potential but a bit more grit and earth could make all the difference.
