Glenn Tilbrook

Lennon and McCartney… Rodgers and Hammerstein… Difford and Tilbrook. Those who slate the ’80s as a barren music wilderness overlook the latter Squeeze stalwarts, yet they easily rank among songwriting’s finest.

Tilbrook leapt solo on stage like a lion unleashed, but the energy seemed somehow excessive and the acoustic guitar overly abrasive (sort out the sound, Komedia).  Vacillating from exhilarating school reunion to misjudged meet-up with an ex, the gig was a disorientating mix of dizzying and sobering (not necessarily a negative!).

A cover of ‘Wichita Lineman’ was a particular pearl and for the harmonising, hardcore heavyweights in the audience, clearly “the past has been bottled and labelled with love!”

Glenn has always been a hero to me as has Chris Difford. Will always love Squeeze but the parting of ways allowed both to explore the side of their talents that they had previously left to the other and anyone who loves music should listen to what they have to give.
