Two men charged with drink driving in Brighton over the new year

Two men have been charged with drink driving in Brighton over the new year, Sussex Police said.

John Clugston, 30, unemployed, of Egmont Road, Hove, has been charged with drink driving after being arrested in Dyke Road, Brighton, at 10.20pm on New Year’s Eve (Tuesday 31 December).

He was held after a minor single-vehicle crash. He has been bailed to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 6 February.

James Lowe, 19, a student, of Friars Orchard, Leatherhead, has been charged with drink driving after being stopped by police.

They said that he was driving erratically in Elm Grove, Brighton, at 2.30am on New Year’s Day (Wednesday 1 January). He has been bailed to appear before Brighton Magistrates on Thursday 30 January.

The pair were among nine drivers to be charged with drink driving after being arrested over the new year.

Sussex Police said that 15 people were arrested on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Nine were charged, three were bailed to return at a later date and three were released with no further action.
