A27 Brighton Bypass jam after crash shuts Southwick Tunnel

A crash in the Southwick Tunnel has led to traffic police closing a section of the A27 Brighton Bypass.

Two people were hurt in the crash which involved two vehicles at just after 7am this morning (Wednesday 15 January).

One of the vehicles ended up on its roof on the westbound side of the road, heading towards Shoreham.

Drivers are being advised to avoid the area if possible until further notice.

Sussex Police said: “Two vehicles collided on the A27 westbound carriageway in Southwick Tunnel at 7.10am.

“One of the vehicles was reported to be on its roof and two people are reported hurt. The injuries are not currently assessed as serious.

“The A27 has been closed westbound at that location for the time being while emergency services deal with the incident and diversions have been put in place.”
