Comedy: Edinburgh previews

The Caroline Of Brunswick announces it is hosting a vast array of Edinburgh previews in June and July

T he Caroline Of Brunswick pub may only have a small space upstairs, but its appetite for comedy is vast and delectable. And it’s not afraid to share. Just check out the listings for its June and July Edinburgh preview season for exhibits one through to… umpteen to demonstrate the CoB’s unwavering support.

It may seem a little early to be flagging up these highlights, but as mentioned earlier – the CoB is a small venue and as such tickets to prime shows are snapped up way in advance. Tickets are available to purchase online, which means that it’s very simple to feast your inner comedy geek’s demands with a mass ticket-buy.

There being a lot of self-confessed comedy geeks in this area, again this is why we urge you to get in early with your favourites.

The talent! There are lots to choose from. Seann Walsh comes back to homeground from the Big Smoke and the TV screens with brand new material – as, in fact, do all of the comics. In case it wasn’t clear, these are all works in progress, hence the knock down price and opportunity to see behind the curtain and peek at the construction of many top notch shows.

Others with new shows with names you’ll recognise off the telly and the radio include Richard Herring, Lucy Porter, Josie Long, James Acaster, Zoe Lyons, Brian Gittins, Angela Barnes, Romesh Ranganathan, Sara Pascoe, Holly Walsh, Andrew Lawrence, Paul McCaffrey and Jo Neary. Phew!

Other comics trying out new shows who may not be on your old media but have been most generous with their talents on the new media plus gathering awards and nominations are Josh Howie, David Trent, Carey Marx, Lou Sanders, Ed Gamble and Carly Smallman. Comedy’s just coming out of the ears of the Caroline of Brunswick, and it’s all from respected established funny people.

To find out more about the special talents of each of these people, which might suit your tastes and which you could think are worth a punt even if they seem a bit ‘out there’, check out the venue’s website. But hurry.
