2-for-1 offer to car-free visitors to South Downs this Easter

Environmentally-friendly daytrippers are being given two-for-one entry at some of the most popular attractions in Sussex.

As part of the “Discover more of the South Downs for less” initiative, the South Downs National Park Authority is encouraging people to leave their cars at home.

Those that do can gain two-for-one entry at a range of attractions in Sussex – with organisers claiming they could save more than a tank of petrol.

The initiative, which is running over Easter until the end of April, is aimed at cutting the amount of congestion in the UK’s newest national park.

Nick Stewart, the authority’s campaigns manager said: “We want visitors to not only enjoy the many attractions that are located in the South Downs National Park, but to enjoy the journey there as well.

“Children in particular can find travelling by bus or train a bit of an adventure, adults often find that leaving the car at home can be much more relaxing; you can watch the scenery unfold without having to keep your eyes on the road.”

High numbers of visitors are expected in the coming weeks as research commissioned by the authority last year shows spring is the favourite season to visit the South Downs.

Mr Stewart said: “There is so much to see at this time of year as the South Downs bursts into life – lambs in the fields, butterflies emerging, trees and flowers blossoming on the roadside and the return of migrating birds like swallows and swifts.

“As well as enjoying the scenic views, bus and train passengers will leave a smaller carbon footprint on the countryside they love.”

Participating attractions in Sussex include:

-Weald and Downland Museum
-WWT Arundel Wetland Centre
-Amberley Museum
-Seven Sisters Sheep Centre
-National Trust Alfriston Clergy House
-Adur Outdoor Activities Centre
