Brighton gun siege suspect held in prison to await trial

The man accused of having an imitation gun in an incident that brought part of Brighton to a standstill on Monday (7 April) must stay in prison to await trial.

Mark Wright, 34, of Lewes Road, Brighton, appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Wednesday 9 April).

He was charged with having an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

The court remanded him in custody to appear at a crown court on Thursday 1 May.

He was arrested in a block of flats in Lewes Road by the Vogue Gyratory after armed police officers sealed off the area or three hours on Monday afternoon.

Lewes Road was closed in both directions and several other streets were shut as Sussex Police responded to a report of a man with a gun having been seen.
