Brighton Equality Walk

Twenty five American Express employees took part in Stonewall’s 11th Brighton Equality Walk with friends and family members, on Sunday 11 May. They walked in support of the gay equality charity’s fundraising efforts to combat homophobic bullying and the use of homophobic language in schools across Britain. Last year’s event raised over £75,000.

In the run up to this year’s event, AmEx worked with some of the city’s local businesses to create special offers along the six mile (10k) route, for Stonewall Walk participants and AmEx employees.

Mike Whyte, Vice President of Merchant Services, said: “It was great to see so many people from across the Sussex community taking part. We are proud to be supporting the invaluable work Stonewall undertakes.”

The financial services company has been the city’s major supporter of the Brighton Equality Walk since 2007.

Craft Chooks

A new bar and rotisserie on Second Avenue, Hove, held a VIP launch party raising hundreds of pounds for Rockinghorse children’s charity.

More than 50 guests raised money with a prize draw, while sampling mini dishes from Crafty Chooks’ menu and tasting its wine and craft beer selection.

Restaurant manager Leo Day (of the Golden Lion group) also made a long-term commitment to the charity with a donation from every key dish ordered from the menu.

All proceeds will go towards the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and the Trevor Mann Baby Unit.

Storrington Village Duck Race

Nigh-on the whole village turned out to enjoy the fun, take part and spend generously in aid of Storrington First School. The rain stayed away, although ferocious winds took out a gazebo or two.

First estimates predict a grand total of £4,500 raised, although the pennies are still being counted.

Feedback indicates it was ‘the best Duck Race ever’, but pictures speak a thousand words…
