1960s bus to return to Brighton and Hove’s streets for new seafront service

Visitors to Brighton and Hove will see a blast from the past on the city’s roads from next weekend with the launch of new bus service.

The new route 10, which starts on June 15 and continues every day until September 13, will set off from Brighton Station and go past the Royal Pavilion then along the seafront to the King Alfred Leisure Centre.

Brighton and Hove Bus Company said its vintage 1960s Routemaster will be used on this route on most days, complete with conductor.

The service, running every hour, is timed to meet the incoming and departing London train services from Brighton Station.

Mike Best, commercial director at Brighton and Hove Buses, said: “We hope that residents and tourists will enjoy using this service which will be a trip down memory lane for some, and a brand new experience for others.

“The service offers a picturesque route for those visiting or staying at one of the seafront hotels.

“Route 10 will be a fantastic reminder of the strong heritage Brighton and Hove has in providing public bus services.”

The fare is adults £2, children, £1, under 5s free and concessionary passes are accepted. Savers are also accepted on this service.
