HOUSING CRISIS
Hundreds of homes with planning permission in Brighton and Hove remain unbuilt.
The figures come to light as recent figures show there are more than 17,000 people on Brighton and Hove City Council’s social housing waiting list.
With limited space to build, Latest TV asked what more the local authority could be doing to solve the city’s housing crisis. James Dunham reports.
BAN E CIGS?
Should e-cigarettes be banned? Health bosses globally want to look again at how harmful they are, with some claiming they could cause problems to children and pregnant mothers.
But those locally are well aware of the positives that e-cigarettes have brought, pointing out that thousands of people in the city have quit thanks to them.
Brighton and Hove City Council goes on the claim that by in 2023, 80% of smokers will use e-cigarettes.
Whether or not there will be a clearer picture on the health side of things, we shall have to see.

TRAVELLERS
Travellers spent three days on protected land in Hove – despite residents reporting antisocial behaviour.
The group of about 20 vehicles arrived at St Helen’s Green in Hangleton on Saturday.
But despite local complaints and a police presence throughout the weekend, it was not until Monday that the group moved on.
GOING MOBILE
Bus companies across Sussex have reported a huge rise in the number of mobile tickets being sold.
Brighton and Hove Bus Company claims that less than 20% of tickets are now bought from the driver – and warn that more change could be around the corner.
But not everyone seems convinced that mobiles are the way forward. Latest TV’s James Dunham reports.

DIALLING CODES
The bells of change are ringing – at least when it comes to dialling codes.
From October, everyone in the Brighton and Hove area making a local call will have to put 01273 at the start of the number.
The reason for the change is that there is so much demand for new numbers that the allocation is set to run out in the near future.
A spokesman for BT said by requiring the area code to be used before the telephone number numbers beginning 0 or 1 can now be issued.
But not everyone seems that bothered, as Latest TV’s Jeff Moody discovered.
DEAL OR NO DEAL
Beth Whitehall has been making beautiful fairy dresses for more than 15 years.
When she heard that The Open Market, off London Road, Brighton, was due to reopen, she was desperate to finally have a permanent home for her fairy fashions.
But she didn’t have the capital needed to start-up her business.
One afternoon, she happened to come across information about how to apply to be a contestant on Deal or No Deal, and she thought “why not?”
And, much to her surprise, she was accepted! Latest TV’s Jody Doherty-Cove reports.
