Jo Neary and Friends

New material nights are always a bit rough around the edges and haphazard affairs, but Brighton’s top character comedian has successfully created a warm, relaxed and vibrant showcase that stands out from the crowd. Having transferred to Komedia, the show remains eclectic, chaotic and slightly strange, with this month’s outing fusing elements as diverse as stand-up, sketches, magic and an extended talk on the links between classical music and sex. Some items did fall a bit flat, but that’s to be expected from this kind of night and there were plenty of belly laughs to offset those lulls.
