Buses: Get On Board

You may not realise it but there are all sorts of interesting and unusual places to visit on the buses from Brighton & Hove This week: Nymans

You may not realise it but there are all sorts of interesting and unusual places to visit on the buses from Brighton & Hove stretching out to Eastbourne, the South Downs, and Steyning to name but a few.
Romantic Nymans, in the village of Handcross is a National Trust property. It is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and walking around the grounds you can almost imagine that you are in a Pre-Raphaelite landscape. The gutted shell of a magnificent mediaeval-style manor built in the 1920s in the grounds only adds to this feeling.

If you want to exercise your artistic skills, this is an ideal place to get out your sketchbook, water colour pad, or your camera! You are sure to be inspired to capture the beauty of Nymans, with its wonderful views across the Downs.
There are plants here from all over the world including a notable collection of Chilean plants, magnolias, camellias, and rare specimens from China and the Far East! The spectacular evergreen tree ‘Nymans Eucryphia’ which flowers in late summer, was raised in Nymans Garden, and is now popular in parks and gardens across the country.
The woodlands surrounding Nymans are carpeted in bluebells in early May so now is an ideal time to visit.
There is a restaurant, plus a shop offering a good selection of plants. Special events are held at Nymans throughout the year, with plenty for children to enjoy, guided walks through the woods and exhibitions in the house.
