The Bond Age: Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus – Brighton Fringe 2015

I’m a fan. BGMC are a slick and confident choral unit that know how to deliver a fine package of musical entertainment – and this was certainly them on top form. Singing in St Bartholomew’s is a challenge, the acoustic is extraordinary, beautiful, but not always easy to master. They had it’s measure though and gave us an evening filled with great music and their signature humorous sketches. I like the format, because they pull it off. I also loved the fact that they tackled Bizet’s Au Fond de Temple Saint – and did it with a great deal of style. This was the classical element that I felt they lacked but were ready for at their last concert, to balance their repertoire of well executed pop classics and I was deligted to see them get it so right. The highlight of the evening though has to be the spine tingling penultimate number. The full capacity of the choir, a sound that the massed male voices of the Welsh valleys would have been proud to muster, and all applied to Wrecking Ball, yes, pop cheese delivered like a classic anthem, a breathtaking feat that confirmed the BGMC’s place as a choral force to be reckoned with.
