Rick Wakeman – Piano Portraits Tour

Not really knowing Rick Wakeman’s work other than recognising the odd tune here and there I went along with an open mind to his sold out gig and was not disappointed. A simple set with subtle lighting, good sound and only a grand piano with candelabra adorned the stage but that was all that was needed. Wakeman delivered beautiful renditions of his own interpretation of great works for almost 2 hours but also delighted his army of loyal fans with hilarious anecdotes and life stories between numbers. Paying homage to some of those who have helped and influenced him during is 50 years in the music industry, Wakeman was both humble and entertaining throughout, a real raconteur. Go see if you can.
