BREMF – ROOTS – 2017 Programme Launch

This year BREMF is telling stories about the gradual and multi-faceted development of music. There’s a surprisingly rich programme including two early stage-works: Rameau’s ‘Pygmalion’ (1748) and Monteverdi’s ‘Orfeo’ (1607), one of the very first operas; and Carissimi’s ‘Jephte’ (c.1648), the first great oratorio. Compositions by Alfonso the Wise of Spain (13th century), 18th century Indian and English music, traditional Scottish airs and much more feature in this year’s heady mix.

A short recital by Improviso was warmly appreciated. This talented young ensemble is being mentored within the BREMF LIVE! scheme which is helping to launch so many promising careers.
