French restaurant to take over shelter site

Leading French restaurant group, Bistrot Pierre, has been given the go ahead to convert a seafront shelter on Worthing seafront.

Bistrot Pierre successfully bid for a long-term lease. They intend to convert and expand the shelter into a state-of-the-art restaurant which will overlook the beach opposite the West Buildings.

The scheme will be put out to public consultation ahead of it going forward for planning permission.

Rob Beacham, who set up the restaurant group with school friend John Whitehead, said they were “delighted to have been selected by Worthing Borough Council to open a bistrot in such a great location.

“This bistrot will be a welcome addition to our portfolio of costal bistrots…bringing delicious French favourites to diners in stunning locations.”

Councillor Kevin Jenkins, Worthing Borough Council’s executive member for regeneration, said the process of putting the area out to tender had resulted in high quality applications. He said Bistrot Pierre’s application was a “first class submission” and he was delighted the restaurant group had won and he looked forward to seeing their detailed plans.

The restaurant is expected to open summer 2019.
