Katherine Ryan: Glitter Room
With overarching themes of pleasing yourself, loosely connected to the titular ‘Glitter Room’ Ryan’s eight-year-old daughter has requested for her bedroom’s redecoration, Katherine Ryan is sharp, pithy, and remarkably warm. Her comedy is deftly written, celebrating her little family’s independence without preaching it as a role model. Ryan’s depicton of her daughter was delightful, poking fun whilst also appearing to ‘punch up’ at her articulate and intelligent offspring.
Fresh, feminist, personal and relateable – Ryan presented herself, flaws and all, in a seemingly effortless show that never dipped in its energy.
