Cloudbusting – 40 Years of Kate Bush
It’s hard to believe that it was 40 years ago that Kate Bush announced herself to the world through the etherial and emotional landscapes of ‘Wuthering Heights’. This incredibly authentic tribute performance was dedicated to the four decades of surreal, sensual melancholy that followed. Even the visuals had the artistic multi-sensory rawness of the auteur. The twinkly-eyed Mandy Watson opened with Kate’s most covered song ‘Running Up That Hill’ to an adoring motley crew, with a rendition that channelled the original from the kick drum and inflection, right down to her whimsical end pose. It was so perfect, if you were back far enough in the dry ice, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was Kate herself. If you didn’t make it to the landmark Hammersmith Apollo show in 2014 for the real thing, this is the closest you’ll ever get.
