Chineke! Junior Quartet

Don’t be put off by Junior in the title, these young players gave a very mature and musical performance. I was keen to hear live the quartet by the Chevalier de Saint-Georges, called in his day the black Mozart.This highly talented ensemble has made his elegant and entertaining music their own. I look forward to hearing more from him and also from Florence B. Price whose delightful, slightly jazz-infused G major quartet followed.

Having broadened my musical horizons, these enthusiastic lads then did full justice to Beethoven’s impressive Quartet in F major op. 18 No.1. A very good days work!
