Secret Affair and The Truth

The Bank Holiday Mod invasion was treated to a double-bill of two of the finest bands to have sprung from the late 70s/early 80s revival. The Truth powered through a set of spiky RnB-flavoured originals and soulful covers before Secret Affair performed their mini-epic tales of angst, pride and self-belief with Ian Page’s consistently strong vocals given an added boost from the guitarists’ harmonies. Even the wallflowers couldn’t resist Northern Soul classic ‘Do I Love You’ and Page’s voice soared over a solitary drumbeat, leading the entire room on a celebratory ‘My World’ before ending with a stomping Motown cover.
