New York Music and Media Legend, Mark Riley

Stephanie recently caught up with Mark Riley, who is a ‘New York music and media legend, who recently moved to Brighton and brings stories of Black music and Culture to Brighton.’

Mark is Music aficionado and has led a very successful career in the music industry. He was a co-Founder of For The Record (1978), the successor of The New York Record Pool, and from this capacity he’s built extensive accolades as a House/Club Music aficionado.

Mark is highly respected for his cross-genre music acumen and he is aligned with with deep friendships with some of the most iconic names in the history of Club/Dance/Jazz Music globally: The Loft, The Garage, David Mancuso, Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Joey Llanos.

Mark is also a media presenter and Black Culture pioneer. Mark has dedicated 45 years as a News/Talk radio presenter in New York City (the mecca of Media), and has interviewed a range of high profile individuals including Nelson Mandela, President Bill Clinton and Jesse Jackson. He has reported on all manners of Black Causes, issues, movies, music and cultural events.

Mark currently hosts a weekly podcast on American politics and contributes to BBC News.

Mark recently relocated to Brighton and has launched ‘Parlour Sessions’ where he partners with local creative businesses and provides ‘Talks’ on Music and Culture. eg n Evening of Whisky & Jazz recently hosted at Cut Your Wolf Loose in North Laine.
