Competition – WIN Theatre Royal Brighton opera tickets!
Opera and Ballet International proudly present two Ellen Kent Productions – Rigoletto and Madama Butterfly – back in Sussex and visiting the Theatre Royal Brighton on 17 and 18 February.
Rigoletto is a stunning traditional production recapturing the decadence of Renaissance Italy, with lavish sets and opulent costumes. Verdi’s masterpiece is a dramatic tale of the jester’s daughter whose heart is stolen by a charming but unreliable ruler, and how her father’s attempts to prevent the love affair lead to tragedy. The opera was almost banned because it exposed the licentious behaviour of the powers-that-be at court. As usual, Ellen has added a little something extra, and Rigoletto features naked women, a golden eagle with a 6ft wingspan and hunting dogs from the local area!
Puccini’s Madama Butterfly stars the Korean soprano Elena Dee and the Japanese soprano Miki Mori. Back by overwhelming public demand, this award winning fully staged opera returns with exquisite sets, and includes a spectacular Japanese garden and fabulous costumes, including antique wedding kimonos from Japan. One of the world’s most popular operas, Madama Butterfly tells the heart-breaking story of the beautiful young Japanese girl who falls in love with an American naval lieutenant – with dramatic results. Highlights include the melodic Humming Chorus, the moving aria One Fine Day and the unforgettable Love Duet.
We’ve a pair of tickets for each opera to give away to anyone who can answer this question:
Madama Butterfly was written by which Italian composer?

– Giuseppe Zanotti
– Giovanni Gabrieli
