Wave: Power up!

Zara Baker steps into summer with Power Plate classes at Revitalise

A full body workout and toning up are my well-intentioned aims. Finding the time for it is the reality. Excuses aside (Euro 2012 matches, birthdays, weddings, oh, and now Wimbledon) we can all find our diaries are more rammed than Victoria Beckham’s and wonder how to keep on top of it all. Power Plate classes make everything that little bit more manageable. And, if like me, your good intentions to eat more healthily and exercise more comes into play when the sun is shining and the days are longer, then now is the perfect time to start.

Power Plate exercises have a huge celebrity fan base including Kylie Minogue and Jennifer Lopez, so how could we go wrong? Two years after my first tentative steps onto a Power Plate machine at Revitalise in Hove, I was raring to go, this time at Revitalise in Brighton. Their new centre in Brighton is home to a fantastic Power Plate work-out studio, and a 30-minute class is the perfect way to get a full body workout.

“The vibrations make your muscles contract”

Classes are held for all abilities from beginners to advanced. The 30-minute class duration makes it perfect for our increasingly busy lives, and a vast timetable with classes held seven days a week lets you choose a time that suits you. What’s not to love? The class teachers make the workout completely beneficial for your fitness and fun too. Arms, legs, bums and tums are given a complete workout that makes you feel great afterwards and gives the same results as triple the time spent in the gym. This is because of the vibrating Power Plate machines. By accomplishing each exercise on the Power Plate, the vibrations make your muscles contract multiple times, intensifying the workout so the results are fantastic – and fast.

The Power Plate machines are ergonomically designed, being comfortable whether you are standing, sitting or lying down!

The workouts themselves are diverse, so you don’t ever get the feeling of not being bothered to go as you’ve ‘been there, done that’. The teachers tailor each session to the level being taught, and the machine’s intensity of vibration is selected by the individual and is increased on a personal basis.

For people recovering from injury or those after a gentle workout a beginners’ class is just the ticket. Movement and repetition of exercises is increased as you develop, taking you through squats, lunges, sit-ups and the plank position – all on the Power Plates. The last five minutes of the class is devoted to a warm down, with gentle stretching and the time for you to choose the area to focus on. Set the machine to a low pulse and enjoy and massage on your back or legs for the ultimate finish to any Power Plate workout.
