Emporiumacabre

It has always been the intention of Emporium to form a rep company and with this, their first in-house production they show great promise. A series of four horror thrillers take you from the sinister genre of Grand Guignol, through the 70s to modern psychological terror. Gary Blair’s The Lift cleverly puts the action inside the lift with the drama displayed on a security camera screen and we the audience staring at a set of doors. Ross Gurney-Randall’s Meat is a chillingly still piece for two and in the final work all three actors instill a real sense of terror into Nigel Fairs’ Text. Beautifully staged, lit and designed the four plays and three actors use the space to great effect and the presence of a guest narrator each performance promises an air of comfort, but will that be realised…

Melody Roche, Kirsty Magian and Doug Devaney do an excellent job of playing a huge array of roles – including nuns, what’s not to like about a play with nuns in vast wimples?
