The Montefiore Hospital celebrates its first year

The Montefiore Hospital opened its doors a year ago today (November 26, 2012) and has been welcoming patients ever since. Situated in the former Legal & General building on the corner of Davigdor Road and Montefiore Road in Hove, the hospital represents a £35 million investment for Spire Healthcare, one of the leading providers of private healthcare.

The man responsible for running the Montefiore is hospital director Andy Wood. He said: “It’s been an incredibly exciting year, with something new happening almost every day. We opened the hospital with core services in place but have been constantly developing the offer so that patients have access to the most up-to-date private healthcare in the country.

“We have over 100 consultant surgeons and physicians practising at the Montefiore now. Thanks to the state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, we are able to attract leading medical professionals across a full spectrum of medical specialties. Patients are referred or elect to come to us for all manner of diagnosis and treatments and everything is under one roof. This means that all tests, scans and X-rays are carried out at the Montefiore, so there is no need for our patients to go elsewhere.

“Treatments range from non-surgical to surgical, minor surgery to major surgery and we have a chemotherapy suite where we treat patients with cancer. As well as medical treatments we are now established as a cosmetic centre, offering a wide range of cosmetic procedures.”

For musculoskeletal problems, ranging from sports injuries to joint replacements, the Spring Orthopaedic Centre based at the Montefiore Hospital, provides diagnostic and treatment services.

David Redfern, Medical Director and Orthopaedic consultant said: “From the first clinic I held in the Montefiore Hospital a year ago, it has remained a real pleasure and privilege to work in this beautiful building with such a great team of staff. To have state of the art imaging and theatre facilities on-site encased in boutique hotel quality surroundings is something of a rarity in medical facilities, to say the least. I am sure the Montefiore Hospital will continue to build on its success going into 2014, and believe that it will lead the way in terms of 21st century patient care.”

For minimally invasive surgery, the hospital houses the Sussex Centre for Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery. This is a group of surgeons from a range of specialties who specialise in keyhole surgery. This allows patients to receive the most appropriate and least invasive treatment possible.

The Montefiore has also made something of a name for itself for its cuisine, thanks to an award-winning chef. In an industry where food is usually to be endured rather than enjoyed, the catering stands out for its quality and individuality and is much appreciated by patients and visitors.

The last word goes to a patient who was recently treated at the Montefiore. She said: “I would like to thank all the staff who made my visit so comfortable, from the time I arrived until the time I left and was helped safely to the car. I could not have been better cared for in any way. As well as the medical care I received, I appreciated so much the teamwork of all the staff including nursing, theatre staff, pharmacy and physiotherapy.”
