Shit-faced Shakespeare

A real gem, yet again, bringing Shakespeare to the masses with the heady scent of beer and sawdust from the Tudors, along with a classically trained chutzpah.

The premise is known by now – a small talented cast perform a play from the Bard’s canon in an hour with one of their number considerably inebriated from the off. This was bawdy, risky, exhilarating and utterly magical. The sense of the ridiculous was heightened, the peril was true, love was lost and won – the conceit of the drunken player worked delightfully but balanced beautifully as the plot of the play itself held the absolute spine of the show.

Many try to bring access to Shakespeare by making it contemporary. This took us back to the fabulous mayhem of the bear pit and won more devotion to the folios with it.
