Eleanor Harris: An Eye On British Airways i360

The Brighton i360 team were at the Paddle Round the Pier over the weekend of 4/5 July. Paddle is a fantastic event – the world’s largest free beach and i360-stand-at-Paddlewater sports festival, and an incredible 55,000 people attended this year. It had an amazing atmosphere and it was great to see so many locals enjoying the event. My family loved it and my two little boys did not want to leave!
We had hundreds of visitors come along to our joint stand with the West Pier Trust. Here are the most frequently asked questions we had about the i360:

When are you opening?
We will open in summer 2016. The tower itself will be completed by this September, but then we need to add the glass pod and build the beach building at its base.

Does it revolve?
No, you are free to walk around the giant glass pod at your leisure. It is a large space and can fit up to 200 people – around 10 times the size of a London Eye capsule.

How do you get up?

The entire glass viewing pod slowly glides up (there is not an internal lift inside the tower).

How much will it cost to visit?

The full ticket price on the day is £15.00 for adults, half price for children and free for under 4s. If you book online in advance the price is £13.50 and £6.75 for children.
If you live in Brighton and Hove then you will be eligible to become a member and gain half price entry, and discounts in our restaurants and other facilities.

How tall will it be?
The i360 will be 162 metres high, and the pod will glide up to 450 feet (138 metres).

Is there a restaurant inside the pod?
No, there is a Sky Bar inside the pod. We will have three restaurants at the base of the tower, including a beach-side brasserie, traditional tea rooms in one of the original 1866 West Pier toll booths and a more casual beach cafe.
